A major national movement aimed at strengthening women’s economic inclusion, grassroots mobilisation, and unified participation in governance has officially commenced with the inauguration of the Executives of the Working Committees of the National Women Mega Empowerment and Rally 2026.
Speaking during the inauguration ceremony, Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, the Nigerian Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development described the programme as “a national architecture of action” designed to harmonise the voices of Nigerian women and deepen their involvement in national development.
The initiative, themed “One Voice, One Movement, One Choice,” is expected to bring together women from across political, social, and economic backgrounds into a coordinated national platform for empowerment and mobilisation.
According to the Minister, the maiden Mega Empowerment and Rally scheduled to hold in Abuja on May 5, 2026 is projected to attract over 35,000 women from across the federation, making it one of the largest women-focused mobilisation platforms in recent times.
Imaan further disclosed that the Central Coordinating Committee, supported by National and Zonal Sub-Committees, as constituted has its membership drawn from diverse constituencies of Nigerian women.
“The structure also includes State Committees to be coordinated in partnership with State First Ladies, Commissioners for Women Affairs, female legislators, civil society organisations, and grassroots representatives,” she further said.
The Minister further explained that “the Working Committees inaugurated are expected to drive mobilisation, coordination, implementation, monitoring, and impact delivery across the federation.
“In line with the empowerment objectives of the initiative, Empowerment Centres are expected to be established across wards nationwide to connect women with sustainable livelihood and employment opportunities through the Women Affinity Groups model under the Renewed Hope Social Impact Intervention (RHSII-774),” she further noted.
The Minister in her inauguration speech at the event, urged members of the newly inaugurated committees to discharge their responsibilities with discipline, commitment, and excellence, stressing that the success of the movement would be measured by its impact on the lives of Nigerian women.
The organisers of the event noted that beyond empowerment, the platform is also intended to strengthen community structures, support inclusive governance, and promote national unity and continuity.
