President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reportedly removed the Inspector-General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun, from office and appointed Assistant Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu as his successor.
Although an official statement from the Presidency was still being awaited at the time of filing this report, sources within the Villa indicated that formal confirmation could be announced imminently.
Disu was recently elevated to the rank of Assistant Inspector-General of Police and posted to head the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex in Lagos under the Nigeria Police Force.
Born on September 4, 1964, Egbetokun was expected to retire in September 2024 upon reaching the statutory retirement age but had his tenure extended prior to this reported development.
Further details are expected as the situation unfolds.
