A pro-democracy group, Ebonyi Citizens for Change (ECC), has launched a blistering attack on Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, accusing him of using the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, as a convenient scapegoat for what it described as his administration’s poor performance.
The group dismissed the governor’s allegation that Wike was plotting to deliver Ebonyi State to the opposition PDP as “baseless, laughable and politically motivated,” insisting that the FCT Minister should not be dragged into Ebonyi politics.
In a statement issued by its spokesman, Chukwuemeka Ukadike, ECC said Governor Nwifuru’s outburst reflected panic over growing public discontent and fears of defeat ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“The governor is fighting imaginary enemies because he knows the people are no longer with him,” the statement said.
“Instead of explaining what he has done with the over N500 billion that has accrued to Ebonyi State under his watch, he has chosen to blame Wike for his dwindling political fortunes.”
The group described as “illogical and absurd” Nwifuru’s claim that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had authorised Wike to take over Ebonyi for the PDP.
“How can the leader of the APC hand over an APC-controlled state to the PDP? The allegation makes no political sense whatsoever,” it said.
ECC stressed that Wike is neither from Ebonyi State nor a registered voter there and therefore cannot determine the political destiny of the state.
“If Governor Nwifuru loses in 2027, it will not be because of Wike. It will be because Ebonyi people are tired of excuses, disappointed by poor governance and ready for a new direction.
“Governor Nwifuru should stop crying wolf, stop looking for scapegoats and face the people with his scorecard instead of dragging President Tinubu and Nyesom Wike into his political troubles.”
