The Senator representing Nasarawa South Senatorial District, Mohammed Ogoshi Onawo, has resigned his membership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), citing the party’s lingering legal disputes and internal challenges.
In a resignation letter dated July 2, 2026, and addressed to the ADC chairman in Galadimawa Ward, Doma Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, the lawmaker said his resignation took effect from June 15, 2026
Onawo said his decision followed extensive consultations with his constituents, political associates and other stakeholders.
According to him, the party’s internal situation and “endless legal battles” no longer provide the stability required for him to effectively represent the people of Nasarawa South.
“This decision is the outcome of careful reflection and wide-ranging consultations with my constituents, political associates, and other critical stakeholders,” the letter read.
“It is driven by my firm belief that the prevailing circumstances within the current party structure and the endless legal battles it is currently embroiled in no longer offer the cohesion, support, and enabling environment required for me to focus squarely on effectively representing my constituents and to fully realise the developmental and progressive mandate they entrusted to me.”
The senator expressed appreciation to members of the party for their support during his stay in the ADC and wished the party success.
“I am grateful for the trust and cooperation I received from my supporters and well-wishers through this journey,” he said.
“Please, accept my appreciation and best wishes for the continued progress and success of the party.”
Onawo did not disclose his next political destination.
His resignation came five months after he left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
In January 2026, the senator resigned from the opposition party, citing “personal reasons” after years of membership.
Two months later, in March, he joined the ADC alongside eight other senators: Aminu Tambuwal (Sokoto South), Enyinnaya Abaribe (Abia South), Victor Umeh (Anambra Central), Tony Nwoye (Anambra North), Binos Yaroe (Adamawa North), Lawal Usman (Kaduna Central), Ogoshi Onawo (Nasarawa South), Ireti Kingibe (FCT), and Austin Akobundu (Abia Central).
